Counter-Strike 2 has a lot of subtle mechanics — air strikes, inaccuracies in “warming up” during shooting, or wallbangs. Today, the CS.MONEY Blog explains wallbanging: why it is needed and how it works.

How does wallbang work?
Wallbanging is the act of dealing damage through an obstacle—a wall, floor, ceiling, or other covering. All weapons in CS2 can deal damage this way, but their effectiveness varies. This is determined by a weapon-specific parameter called “Penetrating Power.”
In CS2, weapons have three levels of penetration power:
- 100% – All submachine guns, shotguns, and pistols (except Desert Eagle and Revolver).
- 200% – All automatic rifles, machine guns, Desert Eagle, and Revolvers.
- 250% – All sniper rifles.
The higher the value, the more effective the weapon is at penetrating barriers. For example, the AWP can shoot cleanly through walls in the Banana Inferno area, whereas the TEC-9 will only leave a small hole in the plaster.
In addition to weapon statistics, two other factors influence wallbang success:
- Barrier thickness. The thicker the wall, the more damage reduction occurs. If the damage reduction reaches zero, the shot will not penetrate the barrier.
- Type of material. Thin, brittle materials, such as drywall sheets, can be easily penetrated by a gun, causing almost complete damage. However, steel blocks will be impenetrable, even by a sniper rifle, or will cause negligible damage.
In short, wallbanging is the act of dealing damage through a barrier. The thicker and more durable the barrier, the greater the damage reduction. The more powerful the weapon, the easier it is to penetrate the barrier.
How to enable bullet hitbox in CS2?
Two console commands are very helpful in learning gunfights. Here he is:
- Sv_showimpacts 1 – Displays the bullet attacks registered by the game.
- Sv_showimpacts_penetration 1 – Shows additional information about the shot, such as damage dealt, wallbang trajectory, distance traveled through obstacles, and more.
Both commands are protected by sv_cheats, so they can only be used in training mode. These commands are very useful for finding new wallbang spots or training existing ones.

Why is wallbang important?
The answer is simple — dealing damage to the enemy. Every map in CS2 has a place where you can wallbang to deal “free” damage. Examples include Hut on Nuke, Apartment on Inferno, Kitchen on Mirage, and many other locations.
When using wallbangs, you should consider some risks:
- Wallbang works both ways. The barrier you penetrate can also be penetrated by your opponent’s bullets from the other side.
- Shooting reveals your position. Each shot will reveal your location to the enemy.
- Ammunition consumption. For some weapons, running out of ammunition due to excessive wallbanging can be a serious problem.
Wallbangs aren’t something to just rely on, but they might make a difference in a few rounds. So it’s worth learning it.
