Call of Duty: Warzone, A Big Game Simplified

The premise of this text is that despite the near-infinite gameplay potential available, there isn’t much you can do in COD: Warzone in terms of action variety.

Contract

Let’s start with contracts as this is one of the driving forces of the game.

Contracts allow players to earn money by completing objectives. It also inadvertently pushes enemy players into the same area when contracts start to run out and sometimes betrays the enemy team’s position when contracts disappear from the map.

There are a limited number of objectives: Bounty, Most Wanted, Search and Destroy, Hostage Rescue, Hunt Enemy Squad, Deliver Cargo, Weapons Raid

While it sounds like a lot of different objectives, Bounty and Hunt Enemy troops can be directed to find a target and kill it; The most wanted turns out to be the same from the point of view of the hunted.

Search and Destroy, Hostage Rescue, and Arms Raids are basically broken down into: Arriving at the target location; Kill the enemies there; Interact with whatever the purpose.

Delivering cargo is simply picking up a vehicle and moving it to another part of the map. Attack helicopters will attack the group but do not do enough damage to kill the squad and only have enough health to ensure the squad stays busy until they reach their destination.

This action is simplified:

Get to the destination zone, complete the objective

Murder

Bots

Of course, one of the greatest actions a player can take in a war game is killing. Enemy players and bots can be killed in Warzone 2.0. The addition of bots makes the tempo of the game faster and eliminates players’ boredom when moving from one contract to another.

Bots are broken down into different enemy types:

There is ground infantry that has its own internal divisions based on weapon type and health. There are heavily armored infantry as well as giants which are a bit different to the basic bots. The armored bot has a helmet that, when shot, flies up and gives the player an indication that another headshot is available and will kill the enemy.

There are various vehicles in the game including airplanes and land vehicles, especially trucks. Some helicopters simply transport troops into the field: Both deposit methods allow players to target dismounted infantry while they are in a vulnerable/exposed position. Other aircraft are attack helicopters that fire accurate machine guns and inaccurate rocket pods attacking one player at a time. The trucks only carried infantry and generally stopped when engaged, even from long distances.

Man

The most interesting aspect of the killing section is engaging with other human players as one will face undetermined forces. Even with advanced warnings via UAVs or other detection technology provided to the player, one will never know how many enemies he is facing because, say one is up against a group of six enemies, all six could be part of one squad or it could be two teams. of three or variations thereof. Moreover, human players generally have different attacking styles and while many use long-range weaponry to attack targets, there are also those who flank and close the distance as quickly as possible.

The act of killing can be simplified to:

Point the mouse cursor at the enemy, click the left mouse button until the enemy dies

There are sub-actions required for the stay alive killing action because dead players cannot kill:

If an enemy damages you: move away from the danger and “heal” (wait for health to recover, insert armor plates if available)

Extraction from the game

In Warzone, regardless of whether one plays DMZ or true Battle Royale, there are battle royale elements to the game: All players fight and are divided into limited sections in the game. In a traditional Battle Royale, all teams are free to be the last team standing. One fights against other teams and against death zones that unite all players into one area of the map. Guiding players from large maps to small maps makes the game exciting and forces action.

In DMZ, players don’t need to do anything except extract to get the green win screen. However, there are three initial extraction zones which become fewer as time goes on and this allows for a microcosm of the Battle Royale effect described above and for ambushes at extraction locations: Both result in players being funneled into smaller maps where there will almost certainly be more action to come.

This action can be simplified to:

Battle Royale => Move to “safe” zone, Kill the last enemy.

DMZ => Arrive at the exfil location, enter the helicopter, survive the helicopter ride.

Customization

Weapons (Weaponsmith)

If the game is just the action outlined previously, it still has a lot of gameplay value. However, the game includes the development, principally, of the player’s weapons and, secondarily, of the player’s operators and “call signs”.

Weapon progression allows players to customize their weapons from the amount of ammunition carried in the receiver to the type of ammunition to the point where the receiver platform can be swapped out entirely. This means a basic 5.56x45mm M4 receiver can be swapped out for a .300 blackout receiver, for example. Sights, barrels, barrel fittings (in the opening, under the barrel, and around the barrel [lasers/lights]), stock and comb, grip are some of the many adjustments that can be made, in the player’s hope, to improve the weapon.

This action can be simplified to:

Basic Customization System => XP to level up, Level to unlock/upgrade.

Weapons => Create weapons, create modifiable parts.

I have written a good bit of text for each part of the game and have not covered every part of the game but we can see that there are several actions that the player can take but these actions result in a significant investment of gameplay time.
